| Master Drummer SangMin Yook, the artistic director and founder of Nori Company, was born in South Korea. During his youth he studied various Koran art forms including calligraphy, sculpture, painting, and woodcarving. He immigrated to the United States in 1985 to pursue his dream of bringing this tradition to a brand new audience. Master Yook has taught students from diverse cultural backgrounds to further enrich this traditional art. Presently, he is the Professor of Korean Traditional Performance in the World Music Department at Wesleyan University. Nori Company and Master Yook have performed at many workshops, festivals and performing arts centers throughout the country. |
